The Craft behind what be build

Precision. Skill. Pride.

Every project begins with skilled hands and a commitment to doing the job right.

Our Craft

More Than a Trade

Across Wisconsin, our members bring craftsmanship, precision, and pride to projects of every size — from large urban developments to critical infrastructure and community facilities in towns across the state.
SMART18 members design, fabricate, install, and maintain the mechanical systems that keep Wisconsin’s buildings running safely and efficiently. This is our craft.

Built by Skilled Professionals

SMART18 represents thousands of skilled professionals across Wisconsin who take pride in mastering their trade.

Architectural

Architectural metal workers install and shape roofing, decking, wall systems and a wide range of exterior and interior components. Their work, from composite panels and insulation to waterproofing systems, ventilators and curbs, flashings, gutters, downspouts, louvers, soffits, skylights and metal doors, protects buildings while enhancing their performance and appearance.

HVAC

HVAC technicians design, install and maintain systems that control airflow, temperature and air quality. Their work keeps homes, workplaces and industrial facilities safe, comfortable and running efficiently.

Testing, Adjusting, Balancing (TAB)

TAB technicians are the experts who test, adjust and balance air and water delivery systems to meet the precise specifications of design engineers. By regulating systems, identifying performance issues and optimizing airflow, they create comfortable, efficient and properly functioning indoor environments.

Fire & Smoke Damper Inspector

Fire and smoke damper inspectors test, inspect and maintain critical life safety systems that prevent the spread of fire and smoke through buildings. By verifying proper operation, identifying issues and ensuring compliance with safety codes, they help protect occupants, preserve property and keep buildings operating safely.

Industrial

Industrial sheet metal workers build and install large-scale conveyor, dust collection, fume control and heat recovery systems. Their work keeps industrial environments safe, clean and operating efficiently.

Kitchen & Specialty

Kitchen and specialty workers craft and install custom sheet metal products that keep food and pharmaceutical facilities clean, safe and operating at peak precision.

CAD Detailers

CAD detailers develop and refine detailed drawings and plans for sheet metal systems using advanced technology. Their work ensures accuracy and efficiency from planning through fabrication and installation.

Shop Manufacturing

Shop manufacturing specialists produce and assemble intricate sheet metal components in controlled environments. Their precision and craftsmanship deliver high-quality parts used across a wide range of applications.

Service Technician

Service technicians are the troubleshooters and problem solvers of the sheet metal industry. They maintain, repair and optimize existing systems to ensure they operate efficiently, extending the lifespan of equipment while keeping building systems running reliably.
Every member shares the same commitment: doing the job right and supporting the people who stand beside them. Because craftsmanship is never a solo effort.

How Craft Is Learned

Training the Next Generation

Great craftsmanship is passed from one generation to the next.

SMART18 invests heavily in apprenticeship and ongoing education to ensure every member has the skills needed to succeed in an evolving industry.

Through mentorship, hands-on training, and classroom instruction, apprentices learn not only technical skills but also the responsibility that comes with the trade.

The result is a workforce prepared for the future.

Our Standards

What We Stand For

Great craftsmanship is not accidental. It is built on shared standards that guide how our members work, collaborate, and grow throughout their careers.

These principles shape every project and every professional who carries the SMART18 name.
