Meet the SMART Army

The SMART Army raised $33,000 and helped renovate ARCh Camp Pow Wow to support adults and children with disabilities.

Work SMART. Give back.

What Can I Expect?

The SMART Army is about investing in our neighborhoods through unity and outreach. The heart of trade unionism is members standing up for each other and helping one another build a good and stable life.

Volunteering is an important form of member action by giving back to our communities and building a positive image. Our Union becomes stronger when we reach out to our local communities to forge new partnerships while we strengthen existing coalitions. By doing this, we raise our visibility and improve our image among the voters, community leaders, and politicians whose support we count on for the change we make to ensure new projects, new Project Labor Agreements, workplace and job site standards, and influence within the communities we live and work in.
“We owe it to each other as members to lend a hand when the need arises.”

Events & Activities

Events are planned from coast to coast, initiated and developed by Local Unions in accordance with current guidelines. Our members have long been involved with organizations such as the American Legion, Veterans Outreach, Habitat for Humanity and countless other nonprofits.

Activities can be as simple as cleaning up parks, participating in food and clothing drives or supporting local youth programs right in the neighborhoods where we live.

Let us not forget our fellow Brothers and Sisters. We all know someone who has faced hardship. Our membership is family, and our strength is our collective bond. If you know a member in need, Local 18 is ready to help.

One of our core values is the solidarity that comes from our Brotherhood and Sisterhood.
